Katherine A.D. Sargent
I have lived in Leverett for 42 years with my husband Theodore. I am a former treasurer of the Leverett Crafts & Artists. And a former assistant leader of cub scouts, brownies and girl scouts, prior to graduating to girl scout leader.
I am a retired register nurse and a former freelance scientific illustrator, a filed that I still work in occasionally. While working as an instructor of scientific illustration fo a number of years at UMASS, Mt. Holyoke and Hampshire Colleges: I free-lance for the UMASS press, Saunders and Sinauer Presses in their college science textbook and science research divisions.
After many years of working as an artist in many media I have settled into “Fabric Art” because the materials I now use are non-toxic. I have been working in quilting and fabric art since 1988. I enjoy designing a piece on paper and then figuring out how best to execute it. Fabric art allows me to combine a series of wonderful techniques: discharging, painting, dying, sunprinting, linoleum block printing, rubbing, bead work machine and hand quilting, and machine and hand embroidery.
