Joy Friedman
Joy Friedman has been making pottery in Leverett for almost 30 years! She celebrates her love of clay and color by making functional, decorative stoneware pots. Her latest focus has been making lace bowls. When Joy cuts out a bowl, the design is created spontaneously as she works. As a result, no two bowls are alike. She enjoys piercing each bowl allowing light to pour through the clay creating patterns and shadows.
Recently Joy has put energy into setting up a new classroom-studio at LCA to teach pottery classes. Joy believes everyone is inherently creative and she is enthusiastic to share the tactile exploration of clay with others. She is patient and encouraging to students as they learn the skills of wheel-throwing and hand-building.
Joy continues to be amazed by the endless possibilities of working with clay
